WAYS TO DRINK MORE WATER AS A BUSY PARENT

1. Set a daily goal

I'm not going to tell you how much water to drink. We all know the recommended 8 glasses or around 2 litres a day but you need to drink the amount that feels right for you. Decide on how much you want to drink each day and stick to that goal. Drinking 3 - 4 litres of water a day helps boost your metabolism so if you want you can work up to that goal. Also, just because we are drinking more water doesn’t mean we need to give up the good stuff (aka caffeine). Check out my post on an easy DIY vanilla latte ;)

2. Use a water bottle that has a straw

For some reason this just makes me drink more water! I think it's because I don't need to open up a lid lol...or maybe I'm just lazy?? Either way, a straw is the way to go. Whenever I’m at work I use my straw water bottle and keep it at my desk. Then I can easily take a quick hands-free sip of beautiful hydrating nectar.

3. Use a GIANT water bottle

I'm busy and so are you. If I need to fill up my water bottle a million times a day I just won't do it! The bigger the water bottle the higher the chance we'll drink more water. My sister has one of these mammoth water bottles and I want to grab one too. It fits 1.9 litres and is clear so you have a visual of how much you’ve consumed. Oooooh bonus tip! Use a clear water bottle.

4. Use a chart to track how much you're drinking

It's nice to see a visual of how much water you're drinking and the progress you're making! Print out this chart and put it on your fridge or somewhere super visible. I keep my chart in my self-care space at home. Colour in a water glass every time you drink a glass of water. Print it out in colour to #treatyoself ;) If you missed out on my August Instagram challenge #hydratedonthate don’t fret my pet. You can still grab your free water drinking worksheet and get hydrated ASAP. If you’re in the mindset of getting healthier then meal planning will be on your list of things to do as well. You can read about meal planning with Trello and it will make your life easy peasy lemon squeezy… or maybe not, but it’ll at least be a bit easier!

5. Flavour and Savour

Add a bit of fruit in your water. You can use a diffuser in your water bottle but my favourite way to add some flavor flav is to muddle some blueberries, add a squeeze of lime and drink it with ice. Yum. Recently I’ve tried adding some watermelon to my water and it was also quite delightful. Grab some of your favourite fruit and see what concoction you can come up with.

6. Drink water as soon as you wake up in the morning

Make it a habit to have a big glass of water before you have coffee or breakfast. Make drinking water a part of your morning routine. I've gotten into this habit and I feel like it has been overall so good for my wellness. No more heading into lunchtime and realizing that I haven’t had any water and my pee smells like coffee (sorry TMI). For real though, drinking water helps me manage my stress on the regular.

7. You and your friends can keep each other accountable

Print out a few extra copies of the water drinking accountability sheet and give them to your buddies. Make it fun and at the end of the week make margaritas together or have a glass of wine… because let’s be real here… we want to be hydrated but by no means are we giving up on alcohol.

I hope these tips help and that you find yourself feeling hydrated and fabulous this time next week.

Let me know in the comments if you print out the worksheet and find success!
